Concerns Among Palestinians Amid Deteriorating Situation in Gaza
Palestinians are increasingly anxious regarding Hamas as conditions in Gaza worsen. Residents note that humanitarian circumstances have taken a turn for the worse, particularly since Hamas hasn’t yet accepted the terms outlined in President Donald Trump’s peace proposal, revealed Gazans to The New York Times.
Residents expressed to The New York Times that Hamas has plunged them into a dire conflict, which has severely impacted the lives of countless individuals since October 7, 2023. A deadline has been set for Hamas to respond to the peace offer, as President Trump and the Israeli Prime Minister reached an agreement on September 30.
“Hamas must agree to this offer. We’ve already endured too much,” said Mahmoud Borubor, a 43-year-old construction worker from Gaza, as reported by The New York Times.
Nasaem Mukhat, a woman who fled the city with her young daughter during the Israeli military campaign, shared her thoughts: “We are perishing without any assistance. It seems like nobody cares about our plight. Hamas should truly consider the difficulties we’ve faced.”
Some residents are skeptical about Hamas engaging in peace talks. One individual remarked that the organization seems indifferent to public sentiment, while another suggested that Trump ought to enforce the treaties as a realization of harsh truths.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry has not commented on the issue. Over 33,000 Palestinians have been displaced due to Israel’s military actions, according to United Nations statistics. Alarmingly, one in four Gazans is facing hunger, with an average of eight casualties occurring daily.
The ceasefire plan stipulates that Hamas would need to renounce the international authority spearheaded by Trump and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and transfer power. As part of the deal, Hamas would also have to release all remaining hostages, while Israel would completely withdraw once new governance is established.
Moreover, several Arab nations are backing this proposal and exerting pressure on Hamas to accept the outlined terms.
