Recently, three non-citizens were arrested for casting votes illegally in the Arkansas election, as state officials emphasize that only American citizens can vote.
Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin stated, “The investigators in my office have arrested three non-citizens for voting illegally in elections, despite lacking the right to do so. Arkansas elections are healthy and safe.” This announcement was made on Thursday.
His office also shared mugshots of the three individuals involved:
Earlier this year, Griffin mentioned that federal authorities had alerted state officials about some individuals whose voting records didn’t align with their citizenship status. Consequently, Arkansas collaborated with Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
One suspect, Cecilia Castellanos, 59, originally from Cuba, has been charged with perjury and a felony related to state election law violations.
“Castellanos is a Cuban citizen and has been awaiting an immigration judge’s decision since 1999. She has three felony convictions from New York. The perjury charge relates to her voter registration form, where she claimed to be a U.S. citizen and denied any previous felony convictions,” the Attorney General detailed.
Meanwhile, Tea Party Patriot Action (TPPA) is advocating for laws that would require proof of citizenship for voter registration, as per a report from Breitbart News last August.
Jenny Beth Martin, founder of TPPA, discussed the necessity of the American Voters Qualification Act (SAVE ACT) for enhancing election security. She also talked about a national bus tour launched by the group in a recent interview with Breitbart News on Saturday.
“If this law is enacted, it would demand evidence of citizenship for voter registration. Currently, the National Voter Registration Act, often referred to as the ‘Acts Voters Act,’ does not require such evidence,” Martin explained.
She further noted that under the Movement Voters Act, individuals can register to vote using a driver’s license without having to provide proof of citizenship.
In November, prior to President Donald Trump’s win in the 2024 presidential election, Breitbart News reported that the U.S. non-citizen population was expanding rapidly, implying that allowing foreigners to vote could potentially influence 12 states in favor of Democratic candidates.
