NFL's request for a new hearing in Jon Gruden lawsuit denied by Nevada Supreme Court

The Nevada Supreme Court has unanimously rejected the NFL’s request to revisit its recent ruling regarding John Gruden. This comes after the court had previously decided in August that Gruden’s case could move forward in court instead of being forced into arbitration.

At that time, the court ruled 5-2, stating that “the arbitration clause in the NFL constitution is harsh and doesn’t apply to Gruden as a former employee.” Following this, the NFL appealed the decision, only to have the court uphold its ruling 7-0 on Thursday. There’s a possibility the league may take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Gruden filed a lawsuit in 2021 after his departure from the Las Vegas Raiders. He accused the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell of orchestrating a “malicious campaign” that led to leaked emails damaging his career, with some of these messages originating from his time as an ESPN analyst.

The NFL approached Nevada’s High Court in 2022 after a Las Vegas judge dismissed its efforts to dismiss Gruden’s claims and to resolve the matter through arbitration under Goodell’s supervision.

During his time with the Raiders, Gruden oversaw the team’s move from Oakland to Las Vegas. He is seeking financial compensation, arguing that selective email disclosures have severely harmed his career and reputation.

Since his exit from the Raiders, Gruden has been involved with the New Orleans Saints, assisting quarterback Derek Carr. He’s also been part of Barstool Sports as a media personality, hosting a show aimed at rookie quarterbacks ahead of the draft.

Recently, Gruden mentioned after visiting the Detroit Lions that he’s eager for another opportunity in coaching. He expressed hope for a comeback, saying, “Hopefully I’m not finished. I’m about to make a comeback,” implying that he believes he could still find a position in football.

He remarked, “I don’t care if I’m going to coach at Jones Middle School or not. I’ll coach again. I’m still a coach,” indicating his determination to return to the field.
