Penn State’s Tough Loss Against UCLA
The Penn State Nittany Lions faced a disappointing 42-37 defeat against the UCLA Bruins on Saturday. This loss is particularly tough, marking the second consecutive defeat for the Nittany Lions, who also struggled against Oregon last week. With two losses in the season, their chances for reaching the college football playoffs seem to be dwindling.
Head coach James Franklin came under fire from fans following this latest setback. UCLA was clearly caught off guard as Penn State pulled out all the stops early in the game. Bruins quarterback Nico Iamaleava initiated the game with a touchdown drive, and then the Bruins recovered an unexpected onside kick, which helped them score a field goal.
Franklin remarked, “The opening sequence of the game for a touchdown, and the surprising onside kick… those were crucial plays. We discussed all week how they might take risks.” From that moment, it felt like they were just trying to catch up, which was, well, pretty tough. The team didn’t usually rack up penalties in key moments, but in this game, things didn’t align as planned.
Looking ahead, Penn State will go up against Northwestern next week. Both teams sit at 3-2 this season. After that, the Nittany Lions have a challenging stretch against Iowa and No. 1 Ohio State, wrapping up with No. 8 Indiana at home. It’s going to be a tough road indeed.
Despite the recent struggles, quarterback Drew Allah remains optimistic about the team’s potential to make it to the playoffs. There’s a sense that they might still turn things around, although, frankly, it won’t be easy.
