Virginia’s Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin expressed disbelief upon hearing about the violent messages exchanged by Democratic Attorney General Jay Jones. This discussion unfolded during an appearance with Brian Kilmeade on Monday.
In the context of the 2022 elections involving Republican Delegate Carrie Coiner, Jones sent messages about then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert, urging him to withdraw from the race. Youngkin described the message, in which Jones wished harm upon Gilbert’s children, as “incredible.”
“Initially, I thought this was a joke. I mean, who would actually write something like that? Here you have a Democratic candidate for Attorney General—a top law enforcement official in Virginia—making such statements. Todd Gilbert has young kids, and it’s alarming to see Jay Jones wish death upon them. It highlights the extreme aspects of the Democratic Party,” said Youngkin.
He continued, “It’s shocking. We’ve seen incidents where figures like Charlie Kirk have been celebrated even after receiving threats to their lives. Now we hear Jay Jones saying he wants to see Todd Gilbert’s child die. This is unacceptable, yet people like Democratic candidate Abigail Spanberger seem unconcerned after issuing only a routine apology.”
Youngkin also referenced social media sentiments that celebrated violence against conservatives, noting that controversial comments had circulated online, particularly regarding the alleged assassination culture linked to figures like Donald Trump, who faced threats during the 2024 race.
This resurfacing of Jones’ messages came amidst ongoing protests at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities in cities like Chicago and Portland.
