MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, who is known for his liberal views, urged Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones to withdraw from the race following the emergence of troubling text messages. These texts revealed that GOP lawmakers had engaged in questionable discussions.
The “Morning Joe” co-host highlighted this controversy after Jones’ old messages ignited outrage among the public. Scarborough, speaking to viewers, suggested that Jones “should probably be forced to drop out of the race.”
Conservatives quickly latched onto Scarborough’s comments, arguing that his stance indicated a significant issue within the Democratic Party. “When you lose MSNBC, you know it’s serious,” remarked a Republican organization on social media.
Commentator Eric Erikson added that Scarborough’s remarks served as a warning for Democrats to be cautious about leaning too far left. “Joe Scarborough has been pressing the Democrats on crime issues, and his views suggest they need to pay attention,” Erikson noted.
Andrew Corvette from Turning Point USA also emphasized the significance of Scarborough’s call for Jones’ withdrawal, remarking, “Even MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough calls for Democrat Jay Jones to withdraw from Virginia AG Race.”
The backlash comes after Jones was forced to apologize for a series of texts sent to Republican Delegate Carrie Coiner in August 2022. The Democrats have shown unwavering support for Jones despite the controversy surrounding his remarks.
