Zelda Williams Calls for Respect for Her Father’s Legacy
Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late Robin Williams, who died in 2014, has expressed her frustration regarding AI-generated videos of her father. Recently, she took to her Instagram stories, urging fans to stop sending her these creations, emphasizing the need to honor her father’s true legacy.
“Stop sending dad’s AI videos,” she wrote. “Please don’t think I want to see them, because I really don’t. If this is an attempt to provoke me, just know that it’s disappointing. It’s a waste of time for everyone involved.” Her candid remarks highlighted her discomfort with how AI is interpreting her father’s essence.
She went on to criticize the AI-generated videos, comparing them to “over-processing hot dogs,” suggesting that these creations trivialize the true artistry and humanity behind real performances. “Condensing a person’s legacy into something that merely ‘looks and sounds’ like them only serves to misrepresent their impact and creativity,” she stated, expressing concern about the misleading portrayal of art.
Williams also underscored that referring to AI as the “future” is misleading, pointing out that it often relies heavily on recycling past content. “It’s important to recognize that these are not original creations,” she added.
In earlier comments, she described the AI recreation of her father’s persona as “personally intrusive,” stressing how it crosses boundaries at a fundamental level. “There’s a growing trend of using AI to replicate actors like Dad, which is not just theoretical. It’s a real concern,” she explained.
She voiced a passionate plea for respect, insisting that living actors should have the autonomy to create and portray their characters, free from robotic imitations that strip away the nuances of human expression. “These recreations… they are poor facsimiles, sometimes even resembling something monstrous,” she concluded, capturing the emotional weight of her message.
