Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize
In Washington, Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) put forward a nomination for President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize on Thursday. This nomination comes after a recent peace deal between Israel and Hamas, which involves the release of all hostages from Gaza starting early next week.
In his letter to Jørgen Watne Fridnes, the chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Barr highlighted Trump’s significant diplomatic work, claiming, “no world leader has done more to promote global peace and prosperity than President Donald Trump.”
Barr elaborated on the peace agreement announced by Trump on October 8, 2025. This deal led to the release of all Israeli hostages from the tragic attack on October 7, 2023, the return of Palestinian prisoners, and a partial military withdrawal of Israel from Gaza.
He emphasized that despite numerous efforts over the decades by U.S. and global leaders, this agreement signifies Trump’s relentless push to restore stability in a particularly unstable region.
Late Wednesday, Israel and Hamas reached an initial agreement as part of a broader 20-point plan to release 20 living hostages from Gaza and around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.
Following this first phase, the plan entails an international council and independent peacekeeping forces taking control of Gaza while disarming Hamas and facilitating the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Interestingly, despite the nomination, news sources pointed out that Fridnes had indicated to Norwegian tabloid VG that the decision regarding the award had already been made on Monday, with the recipients to be announced Friday morning.
Barr also referenced other successful peace negotiations involving the Trump administration spanning four continents, including agreements between Thailand and Cambodia, India and Pakistan, and several others.
He noted that Pakistan and Cambodia have formally requested the Nobel Prize for Trump’s efforts in peacefully resolving their conflicts.
Additionally, Barr is not the only lawmaker to nominate Trump; Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) also submitted a nomination through a letter to the committee in Oslo.
Moreover, Barr is introducing a bill in Congress aimed at directing the State Department to establish the Trump Peace Prize, which would honor Trump as its first recipient.
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) expressed on Thursday that if peace is achieved in Ukraine, he would support efforts to award Trump the Nobel Peace Prize while leading the committee as a Democrat. Following the deal announcement, both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinians in Gaza called for the current president to accept the award.
