NYC Drag March Sparks Controversy Following Arrest
Remember the drag march in New York City earlier this year? A diverse crowd, draped in rainbows, rallied with cries advocating for children’s rights. Brian Griffin, who founded the NYC Drag March, casually brushed off these chants, implying they were a playful way to challenge negative stereotypes against the LGBTQ+ community.
Mainstream media largely supported Griffin’s stance, denouncing the unsettling message as a sarcastic retort to conservative claims that the LGBTQ+ community is targeting children.
However, the recent arrest of a 35-year-old drag performer on charges related to sexual activities with a 13-year-old boy raises questions. Perhaps we should have taken the claims of “satire” more seriously, as noted by Sarah Gonzalez, host on Blaze TV.
Last month, Aubrey Galich, whose real name is Michael Browder, was identified by police in Phoenix. According to official reports, the boy had claimed to be 18 on a dating app.
“Once again, we should listen when they reveal who they really are,” Sarah pointed out.
She raises an interesting argument. The now-infamous phrase “we’re coming for your children” might not be necessary to uncover the darker facets of the drag scene. Drag performances, once seen strictly as adult entertainment, are now touted as “family-friendly” or “appropriate for all ages.” Yet, these events still showcase adult performers in suggestive attire and makeup, often engaging in provocative dance moves.
This reality isn’t hard to interpret, honestly.
Jason Butrill, an investigator at Glenn Beck, humorously critiques those who express shock at situations like Browder’s. “Why do we take our kids to these family drag shows? And then act surprised when incidents like this occur?” He chuckles.
“People will argue online, saying things like, ‘You’re being bigoted!’ I mean, isn’t that obvious?”
“Honestly, my instinct that something was off came when he was performing in front of a young child,” Sarah added.
