Chilling Confession of a New York Man Accused of Strangling His Parents
A New York man has revealed a disturbing admission on television, claiming he murdered his parents and buried them in his backyard.
Last month, Lorenz Kraus, 53, sent a two-page statement detailing his shocking confession to various news outlets.
“After he died, my mother laid her head on his chest. She was there for a few hours, and then I finished her off,” he stated.
Greg Floyd, the news director at WRGB, mentioned that Kraus promised to publicize his statement on the station’s website, provided he could secure an interview.
“I was curious about who he was,” Floyd explained. “When I spoke to him on the phone, he said he buried his parents in the garden. I asked if he had killed them, and he responded, ‘I beg for the fifth one.’”
Kraus reportedly arrived at the station within an hour. Floyd expressed concern over interviewing a double murder suspect within the facility, noting that plainclothes officers were present in the secured lobby.
The brief interview, lasting about 31 minutes, saw Kraus describe his elderly parents’ deaths as acts of mercy to spare them from their suffering due to multiple ailments.
When Floyd probed, “So you killed your parents as a mercy killing?” Kraus sidestepped the inquiry.
“What should I do with this money?” he asked when questioned about potential financial gains.
Kraus admitted to burying his parents on their property but claimed they had died around August 2017.
When asked if they’d requested him to end their lives, he replied, “Implicitly, but not explicitly.” He emphasized that his primary concern was alleviating their misery, a phrase he repeated throughout the conversation.
Under duress, Kraus confessed he strangled both of his parents—his father first, using his hands, followed by his mother, whom he strangled with a rope.
Floyd pressed further, asking, “Did they know this was their fate?” Kraus responded affirmatively, saying, “Yes, and it was very quick.” He claimed to be “shocked” by his father’s passing, which he found unexpectedly early.
While discussing his thought process during the killings, Kraus remarked that he was more focused on acting swiftly to avoid mistakes, alluding to how the police might view him as “an incompetent idiot.”
He disclosed that it took him several days to decide to bury his parents in the backyard of their Albany home.
In addition to the murders, Kraus is facing allegations of stealing Social Security payments posthumously, claiming he distributed the funds to help others.
Kraus’s defense attorney has stated he is not guilty, and he is currently being held without bail in the Albany County Correctional Facility.
Authorities revealed that after federal investigators began looking into suspicious Social Security payments in the parents’ names, a cadaver dog eventually led them to uncover the couple’s remains in their backyard.
Kraus is facing numerous charges, including first-degree murder and identity theft, with a court appearance scheduled for October 28.
