Harris Critiques Justice Department Under Trump

On Sunday, former Vice President Kamala Harris stated during an MSNBC interview that Americans “cannot trust” the Justice Department while Donald Trump is in office.

She pointed to the recent indictments of former FBI Director James Comey and ex-New York Attorney General Letitia James as examples of what she calls Trump’s use of federal power to conduct a “campaign of revenge” against his critics.

When asked by host Eugene Daniels whether the Justice Department is trustworthy, Harris firmly asserted that it isn’t.

“I’m not sure we can trust what the Department of Justice is communicating right now,” she remarked. “As someone with significant experience as a prosecutor, it really pains me to say this. The role of a prosecutor should be about pursuing justice.”

Harris emphasized that U.S. attorneys should be able to perform their duties without fear or for personal gain, which she believes is not the case currently under Trump.

She elaborated on the dangers of manipulating the justice system, stating that such actions have ramifications not just for those directly targeted, but for everyone who values a justice system that, despite its flaws, operates impartially and doesn’t discriminate based on identity or appearance.

Fox News has reached out to the Justice Department for a response.

Harris has increased her public presence following the release of her memoir, “107 Days.” At a recent book event in Los Angeles, she described the current environment as disorienting and frankly called the behavior of some Trump administration officials “crazy.” “There are countless issues today that make it seem like people are losing their grip,” she commented.
