Trump Rejects Offer to Pay Military Wages During Shutdown
President Donald Trump mentioned that a wealthy individual has offered to cover military salaries if the government shutdown persists. He made these remarks while meeting with Argentine President Javier Millei at the White House on Tuesday.
“This is a situation imposed on us by the Democratic Party,” Trump stated. He explained that a donor reached out, expressing, “If there’s a shortfall in funds for the troops, I’ll cover it.” However, Trump emphasized that he declined the offer, asserting, “We don’t need that. We’ll take care of our troops.”
The president’s comments were extensively shared online. On Saturday, he indicated on Truth Social that his administration is exploring alternative solutions to ensure soldiers are compensated. He warned that if inaction continues, troops might miss their scheduled pay on October 15 due to the actions of “Leader” Chuck Schumer and the Democrats. Consequently, he directed Army Secretary Pete Hegseth to utilize all available funds to ensure timely pay for soldiers.
Kristi Noem, from the Department of Homeland Security, posted on social media about securing funds specifically for the U.S. Coast Guard. She criticized the Democrats for allegedly prioritizing political battles over military funding, while the Coast Guard continues to protect the nation’s borders and combat threats.
Noem concluded by praising Trump’s leadership, noting that the U.S. Coast Guard would receive their pay without disruption due to ongoing efforts to support military personnel during this challenging time.
In related news, the Office of Management and Budget reported that more than 4,000 federal employees have been laid off amid the ongoing shutdown.
