Trump Secures Ceasefire: Responses from Political Sphere
President Trump has made a notable impact, receiving accolades from both sides of the political aisle for successfully negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, leading to the release of hostages.
Former President Joe Biden expressed his relief. He stated, “I am deeply grateful and relieved that this day has come. For the last 20 surviving hostages who have endured unimaginable hardship, their reunion with family is a moment of joy. For civilians in Gaza who have faced tremendous loss, this might be a step towards rebuilding.” He added that the journey to this agreement wasn’t straightforward, crediting significant effort from his administration, along with Trump’s team, to facilitate the agreement.
Former President Bill Clinton also commended Trump. He reflected on the pain caused by the conflict that reignited from the October 7, 2023 attack, emphasizing the human toll it has taken. Clinton acknowledged the ceasefire, the hostages’ release, and aid commencement in Gaza, attributing success to Trump, his administration, and regional partners like Qatar.
Comedian Jimmy Kimmel shared his thoughts, albeit with some sarcasm. On his show, he remarked, “What a day for Donald Trump. He finally did something positive today, and I want to give him credit because I know he’s not one to brag about his accomplishments.” Kimmel highlighted that all hostages were back home after 738 days and thousands of Palestinian detainees were released, noting this was just the beginning of a long process. He concluded with a somewhat humorous acknowledgment of Trump’s role in this achievement.
However, not everyone was quick to praise Trump. For instance, Bernie Sanders, while welcoming the release of the hostages and Palestinians, insisted the future must be determined by the Palestinians themselves, which sparked some criticism from commentators like Stu Bruguiere, who argued against their capacity to decide their fate based on past elections.
