Nakia Thompson, the grandniece of Letitia James, recently made headlines after her long history of criminal activity surfaced. In response, she posted a confident yet misleading update on Facebook.
“Dear inquiring minds, I haven’t been without trouble over the years,” the 36-year-old stated.
Despite her extensive rap sheet, which dates back almost 20 years and includes two charges for assaulting a police officer, she called those previous incidents “totally a long time ago” and claimed they were “fabricated.”
Thompson described herself as a devoted mother, a daily worker, and a college student nearing graduation with a degree in sociology and a minor in criminal justice. She conveniently left out her 2019 grand theft arrest involving her children.
Authorities list her as a “fugitive” in Forsyth County, North Carolina, for not completing her probation, according to court documents.
She criticized “gossipmongers” for their focus on her past mistakes, even mentioning that in July, she received four citations in one day for various offenses, including speeding at 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.
“I’m doing my own thing!!” she exclaimed, asserting that she walks with her head held high due to her efforts. She referred to herself as a “walking testament.”
Thompson has been living in a home owned by James in Norfolk since 2020 and is wanted for deliberately avoiding contact with her probation officer, as reported by the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
The investigation into James revolves around whether Thompson paid rent while living in the property, which James had classified as a “second home” on his mortgage documents.
However, prosecutors claim she has been collecting rent from the premises.
James has denied these allegations, while Thompson told the New York Times that she did not pay any rent during her stay at the home.
