Graham Urges Senate Support for Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) is urging his Democratic peers to clarify their stance on President Trump’s significant 20-point peace initiative for Gaza.
Graham, 66, has plans to present a resolution next week declaring that the Senate “supports President Donald J. Trump’s 20-point comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza, backed by both Israel and Hamas, along with support from regional Arab and Muslim allies.”
The resolution will also “call on all parties to continue their efforts to implement the 20-point comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza.”
“I think it would be beneficial for the Senate to unite in backing President Trump’s 20-point peace plan for the Middle East,” Graham mentioned to the Post on Wednesday.
“This plan has been approved by Israel and has the backing of all major Arab nations. A strong bipartisan vote in the U.S. Senate would certainly contribute to the plan’s success.”
President Trump, 79, unveiled the plan on September 29 at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On October 8, Hamas agreed to release all remaining hostages, and the Israeli Security Cabinet endorsed the plan the following day.
The plan proposes establishing an international peacekeeping force in Gaza and creating a transitional government free of Hamas, overseen by a “peace commission” led by the president, with support from key Arab nations such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Turkey, and Qatar.
Despite an initial ceasefire by Hamas and the release of 20 Israeli hostages, Trump’s initiative has met with cautious backing from Democrats; notable figures like former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris have even expressed their reservations directly about the president’s approach.
