Russia conducts a large-scale drone attack overnight, causing 17,000 Ukrainians to lose power.

Just hours after President Trump called for peace between the warring factions, Russian forces launched a brutal air assault on Ukraine, resulting in one death and leaving many without power in the dark.

Moscow’s military launched around 268 guided air bombs, each weighing about 3,307 pounds, mainly targeting Ukrainian front-line troops and vital infrastructure. Reports indicated this was mostly focusing on the military’s activities.

Ukrainian officials confirmed that an unidentified man was killed in the village of Zeleny-Khair.

In Chukhiv, nearly all districts suffered power outages, plunging residents into darkness, according to Euronews.

Russian airstrikes also struck the Kolukivka district’s energy facilities, cutting off power to around 17,000 people.

The intensity of the attacks seems to be escalating, with reports indicating that Russia has been deploying an average of 180 drones each night throughout September.

An analyst noted that Moscow has effectively adapted its drone tactics to locate and eliminate Ukrainian soldiers, transforming a prior weakness into a strength.

This shift has resulted in improved missiles and the creation of more durable armor systems, enabling junior commanders greater flexibility in planning.

Despite Trump’s calls for a halt to hostilities to ease negotiations, Russia is making gradual progress on the front lines.

At a recent meeting in Washington, Trump rebuffed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s plea for Tomahawk missile deployments against Russia, instead urging both parties to seek peaceful resolutions.

Zelenskiy acknowledged that addressing “delicate” territorial matters would pose significant challenges during talks with Vladimir Putin but emphasized that establishing a ceasefire is crucial.

“First, we must achieve a ceasefire. For that, we need to engage in dialogue and clarify our positions. I believe this is the essential first step,” Zelenskiy shared after his visit to the White House.

Meanwhile, intense combat continues in various areas, including Kharkiv and Donetsk, where Russian forces pushed forward over the weekend.

Recent analysis pointed out that Russia has gained approximately 120 square miles of territory over the last month.

As Ukraine faces continued challenges from Russia, authorities are focusing on repairing damaged infrastructure.

Efforts are underway to restore off-site power lines at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which has been without electricity since being targeted a month ago. This is a concerning situation, as power is vital to keep the reactor’s fuel cool and avoid a potentially disastrous meltdown.

The International Atomic Energy Agency commended both Ukraine and Russia for reaching an agreement on a ceasefire zone that would permit critical repairs at nuclear facilities.

“Restoring off-site power is essential for maintaining nuclear safety and security,” the agency noted. “Both sides worked constructively with the IAEA to help this complex remediation plan move forward.”

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is the largest in Europe, featuring six nuclear reactors.
