Keanu Reeves Reflects on Early Hollywood Experiences
Keanu Reeves recently opened up about his initial foray into Hollywood during a podcast on October 15. At 61, the “John Wick” actor shared his insights on navigating the early stages of his acting career, including the various stage names he toyed with before ultimately deciding to stick with his real name.
Reeves shared a humorous recollection of moving to Los Angeles. “I started getting paid when I was 16, so by the time I turned 17, I was already a professional actor,” he explained. “I was in Toronto at the time, and then I had a manager based in Los Angeles.” He detailed how, at 20, upon arriving in L.A., his manager suggested, “We’d like to change your name.” He chuckled, remembering his thoughts: “Welcome to Hollywood, right?” The moment stuck with him as he strolled on the beach, contemplating the implications of a name change.
Initially, he considered the name Chuck Spadina, a blend of his middle name, Charles, and a street name from his hometown. However, the name didn’t last long. As other suggestions arose, he then pondered Templeton. Eventually, he settled on “KC Reeves.” Yet, he found using the name challenging in auditions, leading to a realization: “After six months, I thought, ‘I’m not doing this.’ It’s just one of those Hollywood moments.”
Reeves got his break in the late ’80s, appearing in several television films before landing a significant role in “Dangerous Liaisons” in 1988. He rose to fame as Ted in “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” which helped cement his position in Hollywood, leading to iconic roles in “Point Break,” “Speed,” and “The Matrix.” Currently, he stars in the comedy “Good Fortune,” where he plays a guardian angel.
Recently, Reeves attended the premiere of “Good Fortune” alongside his girlfriend, Alexandra Grant. There were swirling rumors about the couple possibly tying the knot, which Grant addressed in a light-hearted Instagram post. “This is a real photo, not an engagement photo or an AI wedding announcement… just a kiss!” she clarified, humorously noting their expressions in the picture.
Grant followed up by acknowledging the speculation surrounding their relationship. “I’m sharing this to thank everyone who celebrated our wedding, but we didn’t get married,” she explained. “Good news is in high demand these days, but this one is fake, so be cautious!” The wedding rumors began circulating back in June when Grant was seen with a ring on the red carpet during the premiere of “Ballerina.”
The couple first confirmed their relationship during the LACMA Art + Film Gala in November 2019. At the time, a source mentioned that Reeves was “very happy and grateful” to have Alexandra in his life.
