Trump Labels Petro as 'Criminal Drug Trafficker' and Cuts Aid to Colombia

Trump Criticizes Colombian President Over Drug Issues

On Sunday morning, former President Donald Trump criticized Colombian President Gustavo Petro, labeling him as an “illegal drug dealer” and announcing that the U.S. would cease payments and subsidies to Colombia.

This criticism was expressed in a post Trump made on Truth Social, where he accused Petro of being a major player in illegal narcotics and of promoting the widespread production of drugs in Colombia.

Trump claimed that Colombia had become the largest drug operation under Petro’s leadership, stating that despite receiving extensive financial support from the U.S., Petro has failed to curb this issue. He called these payments and subsidies a long-term scam against American taxpayers.

He proclaimed, “As of today, these and other payments and subsidies will no longer be sent to Colombia,” emphasizing that the drug production serves primarily to supply the U.S. market, resulting in significant harm and chaos.

Trump further warned that if Petro does not take action to confront the violent situation, the U.S. would intervene. He described Petro as “unpopular” and insisted that immediate measures need to be taken to address the “killing scenes” in Colombia, claiming that if Petro doesn’t act, the U.S. would step in.

Additionally, Trump mentioned on Saturday that his administration had conducted operations against “narco-terrorists,” citing at least two individuals linked to Colombia and Ecuador, and noting a significant drug shipment that could potentially kill 25,000 Americans.

He reported that U.S. intelligence had verified that this shipment contained fentanyl and other illegal substances, and revealed that there were known terrorists on board, leading to a military response in which two were killed. The surviving suspects were sent back to their home countries for prosecution.

Trump asserted that his administration would not overlook the actions of those involved in drug trafficking, whether by land or sea.

In response, Petro indicated that the individuals could face legal actions if extradited to Colombia, expressing relief that one of the captured terrorists remained alive to face justice under the law.
