Sen. Kennedy Shares Insights on Trump’s Social Media Presence
In the latest episode of “Pod Force One,” Senator John Kennedy (R-Louisiana) openly discusses President Trump’s online behavior, suggesting that both he and his followers benefit from Trump’s consistent activity on social media.
“He’s quite the character,” Kennedy mentioned in a conversation with Miranda Devine. “I once told him, ‘Mr. President, you get jittery when you keep things to yourself.’ He just lets everything out there.”
When asked about how Trump reacted to the comment, Kennedy responded, “He took it well.”
In the podcast, Kennedy recounted a moment when Trump asked him for feedback on his tweets. “I replied, ‘Mr. President, please don’t misunderstand—tweeting a bit less won’t hurt anyone.’ He shot me a look and said, ‘You aren’t a fan of my tweets, are you?’ I clarified, ‘That’s not what I said. I enjoy steak, but I wouldn’t want to have eight steaks all at once.’ Sometimes I feel like I have to control what I say too.”
Before and during his successful 2016 campaign, Trump was known for his significant use of Twitter (now called X). Throughout his presidency, various tweets raised eyebrows, including the enigmatic “covfefe,” widely viewed as a misspelling that went viral.
Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist, noted Trump’s unique “operational style,” which he believes enabled him to combat misleading media narratives effectively. “If you challenge him, he pushes back harder,” Bannon stated.
Discussing Trump’s age and approach, Bannon remarked on how it contributed to his presidency, saying, “That’s his style. I’m not going to change that.” He acknowledged the pushback Trump faced in 2018, particularly from suburban voters, especially women, which may have been a reaction to that very style.
Exploring Trump’s New Platform
After being banned from Twitter following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, Trump launched his own platform, Truth Social, where he frequently shares updates on significant domestic and foreign issues.
Currently, Trump boasts over 110 million followers on X and nearly 11 million on Truth Social. As Kennedy aptly put it, “The American people get it. They know Trump well.” He added, “While my party has its flaws, most Americans see a choice between Democrats and Republicans and think, ‘The Republicans aren’t perfect, but they’re not insane.’ That’s why they chose Trump.”
