Psaki urges Democrats to discard DNC talking points and communicate genuinely

Psaki Urges Democrats to Speak from the Heart

During a recent discussion, MSNBC host Jen Psaki encouraged Democratic lawmakers to abandon rigid talking points and communicate more genuinely. She suggested they should “speak like human beings with hearts.”

Psaki remarked, “People need to relax a bit and let go of the scripts. It’s quite amusing, but in my experience as a former communicator, guests often left interviews with feedback like, ‘You shouldn’t invite that person again; they just read lists of talking points.’ It’s really about freeing yourself and being less formal in how you express ideas.” She shared these thoughts on the podcast “I tried it” on Tuesday.

Referring to former President Obama, whom she had previously worked with, she noted that he would advise politicians to voice their genuine thoughts without getting bogged down by polls or prepared scripts.

“Don’t start with what the polls indicate. Ditch the talking points provided by the DNC or similar groups. Just express what you truly believe. You’re a leader, well-informed, and educated. Simply say it. Sure, it sounds straightforward, but many people struggle with it,” she emphasized.

Psaki, while discussing the aftermath of President Trump’s 2024 victory, criticized Democrats for being overly cautious about offending online critics. She recently expressed her thoughts on Bulwark’s “The Focus Group” podcast, advocating for a more honest representation of their beliefs.

She previously appeared on comedian Jon Stewart’s podcast and voiced concerns about the Democratic Party’s failure to resonate with voters. Psaki pointed out that the language used by party elites was overly complex and not relatable, saying, “I advised them to remove terms like authoritarianism and oligarchy from their scripts. No one actually talks like that.”

In a separate segment, she expressed her apprehensions about Vice President J.D. Vance, calling him “more scary” than Trump. She humorously questioned what his wife might be feeling, adding, “I sometimes wonder, are you okay? Blink four times if you need help. We’re here for you.”

Psaki elaborated that Vance’s ambition made him particularly concerning, noting his adaptability in changing his views to suit his audience. “He’s young, ambitious, and, in a way, he’s a chameleon, reshaping himself to appeal to what people want to hear,” she stated.
