Incident at Compton Beauty Supply Store
On Sunday afternoon, a 42-year-old man allegedly followed a woman into a Pink Beauty Supply store in Compton, California, where he groped her, as reported by a lieutenant from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. When staff asked him to leave, he refused and turned aggressive, assaulting both employees and other customers before causing a disruption by throwing items inside the store.
Witnesses reported that the man was brandishing what looked like a knife and making threats to kill those present. In response, a woman who was also a customer drew her firearm. It was noted that, fearing for the safety of herself and others, she fired a warning shot first. However, when the suspect turned toward her, she fired again, hitting him.
Witnesses said he collapsed shortly after being shot. Emergency personnel from the Compton Fire Department responded, declaring him dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
The woman who fired the gun remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. Detectives noted that surveillance footage indicated the man had been loitering outside the store and drinking alcohol prior to the incident. It was mentioned that he had a long criminal history, which includes various offenses like assault, robbery, and theft, and he had claimed to previously be a gang member, though it remains unclear if he was still active.
As for the woman who fired the shot—she is in her 50s. After the shooting, she reportedly surrendered her weapon, and no arrests were made at that time. Whether she will face charges is still uncertain, and it is unclear if she acted in self-defense.
