DHS Disapproves of California Democrats' Proposal to Create 'ICE Tracker' to Expose ICE Details

DHS Challenges California Democrats’ ICE Tracker Initiative

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is pushing back against a plan by the California Democratic Party to create an online tracker aimed at monitoring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. This initiative is seen as potentially enabling pro-immigration activists to disrupt ICE activities.

DHS expressed concerns in a post on X, stating, “ICE tracking apps and websites directly endanger the lives of ICE law enforcement and their families.” The urgency of their warning was underscored by a recent incident where a gunman, reportedly using an ICE tracking app, targeted an ICE facility in Dallas.

The DHS continued, highlighting the dangerous implications: “Less than a month after that shooting in Dallas, California politicians are pushing to release information that further puts officer safety at risk.”

“Anyone who obstructs law enforcement in their duties, or attacks them—including U.S. citizens—will face consequences,” DHS added in a further reiteration of their stance.

The proposed tracker, described by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Rep. Robert Garcia as a means to investigate ICE’s actions, aims to compile data from community submissions. Garcia explained that the app would serve as a centralized resource for tracking instances of ICE activity in Los Angeles, hoping to make this information easily accessible and searchable.

Despite DHS’s threats of legal action against companies aiding the tracker’s development, Garcia encouraged citizens to document and report any observed ICE operations, suggesting they collaborate with local organizations and elected officials. “I encourage them to let them know that if they can document what is happening safely, they can pass the information on,” Garcia said, emphasizing community involvement.
