Major Changes at the White House

This week, President Trump made a surprising decision to demolish the East Wing of the White House. Initially, he had stated that he wouldn’t alter the building, but plans for a new, privately funded ballroom nearby prompted this change.

Beginning on Monday, construction crews took down the facade of the section that housed the first lady’s office. By Thursday, there wasn’t much left.

Trump explained to reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday, “To do it properly, we had to demolish the existing structure,” as he gestured towards a rendering of the upcoming ballroom.

This move has sparked a mix of backlash and support from various quarters.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Demolition began on October 20, and it has progressed quickly, revealing the stark changes at the iconic site.

While some may appreciate the modernization, others, perhaps, feel conflicted about altering such a historic building. But, with construction continuing through the week, a new chapter for the White House is clearly underway.
