In light of Democratic concerns regarding the construction of presidential banquet halls, alongside various scandals involving figures like former President Bill Clinton and Hunter Biden, the Trump administration has rolled out an official “key events timeline” on the White House website.
The timeline highlights the original design of the White House, its reconstruction after being set ablaze by British forces during the War of 1812, and the subsequent additions like the West Wing, the Oval Office, and the Rose Garden.
Fast forward to the 1990s and there’s a photo of Clinton with Monica Lewinsky, captioned: “President Bill Clinton’s affair with intern Monica Lewinsky exposed, leading to White House perjury investigation. Secret Oval Office meeting fueled impeachment on obstruction charge.”
In another entry from 2012, a meeting between then-President Barack Obama and members of the extremist Muslim Brotherhood is featured.
The caption states, “President Obama embraces members of the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been linked to Islamic extremism and designated as a terrorist organization by several nations.”
In 2023, a photo of Hunter Biden smoking in a bathtub accompanies a note about U.S. Secret Service agents finding cocaine in the West Wing foyer.
It mentions, “Hunter Biden is suspected of admitting to drug use,” along with evidence from a laptop seized in 2019 containing emails tied to foreign business dealings involving his father, Joe Biden, during his vice presidency.
The same year, a transgender activist invited to an LGBTQ+ Pride event by President Biden reportedly caused a stir by making a provocative display.
The Trump White House noted, “The Biden/Harris Administration will recognize transgender individuals at the White House in 2023 and will declare a ‘Transgender Day of Visibility’ on Easter Sunday in 2024,” alongside a photo from the Pride event.
Recent updates on the White House website have noted objections to President Trump’s plans for the banquet hall expansion.
Hillary Clinton, a former Secretary of State, has commented on Trump “destroying” the White House, while Senator Elizabeth Warren showcased ongoing construction with a strong critique.
During a press conference, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt challenged the Democrats’ accusations, stating that most presidents have undertaken modernization efforts to the residence.
She pointed out that many presidents have expressed a desire for a larger event space than what the East Room or State Dining Room currently offers.
Levitt highlighted that President Obama even mentioned hosting state dinners on the South Lawn due to limited space, indicating the need for upgrades.
