Harvard Medical School Delays Transgender Health Course
Harvard Medical School has decided to postpone a course on transgender health that was available free of charge for doctors identifying as transgender or gender diverse. This course, titled “Advancing Excellence in Transgender Health,” had the $650 tuition fee waived only for those physicians. On Thursday, the school announced the delay after clarification on legal concerns regarding the course.
In a statement, the school said, “The continuing education course ‘Advancing Excellence in Transgender Health: Core Courses for the Entire Care Team,’ which was developed in collaboration with the Fenway Institute and accredited by Harvard Medical School, has been postponed and will be rescheduled for later this year.”
They emphasized their commitment to ensuring that all accredited courses comply with applicable laws. However, they did not specify the reasons for the postponement or when the course might be rescheduled.
The program, originally set to commence on Friday, has been part of Harvard’s offerings for about 11 years now. Details regarding the course are still accessible on the Harvard Medical School’s website.
This course was designed in response to a noticeable interest from clinicians wanting to deliver high-quality care to transgender and gender-diverse individuals of all ages. The description mentions that sessions are led by experts in the field and discuss both medical and behavioral health approaches to gender-affirming care.
As of now, Harvard University has yet to announce a new date for the course.
