Trump Suggests Xi Jinping Come to Mar-A-Lago After Upcoming Meeting in China

Trump Plans to Host Xi Jinping at Mar-a-Lago

President Trump announced on Monday that he hopes to invite Chinese President Xi Jinping to Mar-a-Lago following a potential visit to China next year.

While speaking to reporters on Air Force One during his East Asia trip, Trump mentioned he is open to Xi visiting his Florida residence after discussing matters in China. He expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with China concerning the ongoing trade disputes.

“Earlier this year, I visited China, and we mostly agreed that President Xi would likely come to Washington or Palm Beach afterward,” Trump remarked in a morning conversation.

Throughout his East Asia tour, Trump has also signed trade agreements with Cambodia and Malaysia. He is set to meet with Xi in South Korea on Thursday.

China has shown a confrontational stance in trade negotiations with the United States, but it may face the risk of losing access to the significantly larger American consumer market, which it heavily relies on for economic support.

So far, the Trump administration and China have indicated they might agree on a trade deal framework before Thursday’s meeting, although specific details are still being finalized. Additionally, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that any further tariff increases are currently “off the table” as talks with the Chinese government appear to be progressing well.

The White House chose not to comment further, deferring to President Trump.
