Netanyahu commands strong attacks on Gaza after reported ceasefire breach

Netanyahu Orders Offensive in Gaza Following Ceasefire Violation

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directed an “immediate and strong offensive” in the Gaza Strip, responding to reports from military officials indicating that Hamas had breached the ceasefire. This announcement came after Hamas allegedly attacked Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers in Rafah.

A statement from Netanyahu’s office mentioned that following security consultations, military leaders received orders to act decisively in Gaza. Meanwhile, Hamas indicated that there would be a delay in returning the bodies of hostages.

The recent conflict has already seen tragic losses. Earlier this month, two IDF soldiers were killed in Rafah, identified as Major Yaniv Kura, 26, and Sergeant First Class Itai Javetz, 21. The incident happened when gunmen emerged from a tunnel and opened fire on Israeli troops. There were also reports of serious injuries to reservists during the attack, who were subsequently evacuated to hospitals.

In retaliation, the IDF launched airstrikes and ground operations across southern Gaza, stating that they targeted a lengthy underground facility used by terrorist groups for assault planning against Israel.

Details surrounding the latest violence are still unfolding. The ceasefire, brokered by the US, had started on October 10 to temporarily halt a two-year conflict between Israel and Hamas.

This situation, with its complex web of actions and reactions, paints a picture of an ongoing struggle, marked by cycles of hostilities and fragile truces. For those keeping track, it seems there might be little sign of lasting peace in the immediate future.
