Kirk Cameron Questions Trump’s Troop Deployment

Actor and author Kirk Cameron has diverged from some conservatives regarding President Trump’s decision to send troops into U.S. cities. He argues that this sets a troubling precedent that could eventually be turned against future left-leaning presidents, or even Christians. Cameron expressed these views during a recent episode of his show.

Cameron pointed out that Trump described the deployment of the National Guard to places like Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Memphis, and Portland as necessary to tackle riots and crime.

“President Trump has said he will use the National Guard to combat violent crime and protect federal workers,” he noted. “He’s even mentioned possibly invoking the Insurrection Act, which grants the president extreme power to send troops onto American soil.”

He stressed the importance of considering the long-term implications of such actions, asserting that the Insurrection Act is intended for serious situations like rebellion, invasion, and anarchy.

“Here’s the hard truth: we may agree with the actions today, but we must think about tomorrow,” Cameron said. “If one president can label someone a threat, what if the next one decides that you are the threat? A future leftist president could easily target Christians or conservative voices as extremists. If those powers are turned against us, will we have any moral high ground?”

Cameron reminded listeners of the founding fathers’ intent in establishing checks and balances, noting that good intentions can still lead to dangerous outcomes, comparing it to fire—able to provide warmth or cause destruction.

This week, President Trump reiterated his commitment to deploying the National Guard where needed. “Certain cities have issues that shouldn’t exist,” he declared. “We have the National Guard, but we need more than that.”

“We will bring more than just the National Guard to ensure our cities are safe,” he added. “We’re not going to allow violence in our cities, and that’s the plan, whether it’s popular or not.”
