Violent Confrontation at North Carolina Supermarket
A suspected shoplifter was caught on video attacking a supermarket employee who approached him at a North Carolina store.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is looking into the incident. According to reports, the altercation took place on October 20 at a Food Lion located on Park Road in Charlotte.
Detective Ashley Phillips stated that an 18-year-old employee tried to intervene when two individuals were allegedly attempting to steal items from the self-checkout area.
Footage reveals one suspect speaking with the employee before leading him into a back room, where the physical attack occurred. The video shows the suspect grabbing the employee and violently slamming him against a large container before striking and stomping on him.
Further surveillance footage captured the suspects leaving the store with stolen goods.
Phillips commented on the situation, calling the violence “senseless” and indicating that self-checkout options can sometimes facilitate theft. She advised that employees witnessing such activities should not intervene. Instead, she suggested observing the situation, gathering information, and contacting the police.
Phillips expressed hope that someone might recognize the individuals from the clear footage. “We’ve received some helpful tips and appreciate the community’s involvement,” she added.
Authorities are calling for anyone with information related to the Food Lion incident to reach out to Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600. Tips leading to an arrest may be kept anonymous and could be eligible for a reward.
