Nashville Predators Embrace Humor After “SNL” Skit
It seems they might have anticipated this moment.
The Nashville Predators found a way to laugh off some light-hearted teasing on “Saturday Night Live” regarding the somewhat awkward title of their recent community initiative, “Preds in the Community.”
A sketch that aired on November 1st, featuring Miles Teller as the host, quickly went viral. It humorously showcased NHL players promoting the league’s annual community outreach day in July.
The skit involved players from the Rangers and Kings, but it notably focused on the Predators with a catchy, though eyebrow-raising, tagline.
In response to the viral segment on social media, the Predators posted a playful nod to HBO’s “Euphoria,” asking, “Wait, is this a play about us?”
Teller’s portrayal of Nashville players aimed to highlight their philanthropic efforts, yet they stuck to a rather clumsily written script.
He delivered some increasingly thought-provoking lines, including “I’m a predator in the community” and “I work in a hospital to touch sick children,” which certainly caught attention.
The climax came when Teller’s character introduced himself as “Chase Kidd, Right-Wing Predator.”
Turning the mockery into an opportunity, the Predators capitalized on the attention with their post getting over 1.1 million views, encouraging followers to support the Nashville Predators Foundation.
They wrote beneath that original post, “Learn more and donate to support.” The foundation has been active in Nashville and Middle Tennessee since 1998, focusing on empowering young people and their families.
Since its inception, the foundation has provided more than $11.2 million in grants to address educational, social, health, and cultural needs in local communities.
Despite the humorous fallout from the skit, it’s probably a good idea to refine that slogan a bit.
