Tom Brady’s Dog Is a Clone
As the NFL trade deadline approaches, Tom Brady has shared some surprising personal news: his dog, Junie, is a clone of his late pet, Lua.
Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion and current FOX Sports broadcaster, made this announcement through a statement from his portfolio company. Viagen Pets and Equine, an animal cloning company, has recently been acquired by the biotech startup Colossal Biosciences, which aims to tackle extinction through its innovations.
Brady emphasized his fondness for pets in his announcement, mentioning a partnership with Colossal to utilize their non-invasive cloning techniques. This was done by drawing blood from Lua before she passed away. Lua was a beloved dog shared with his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, and unfortunately, she passed away in December 2023.
It was noted that Junie, a pit bull mix, came into existence thanks to Colossal’s genetic engineering practices. Interestingly, the same technology has reportedly led to the birth of three dire wolf cubs, a species believed to have gone extinct, although this claim has faced skepticism from conservation groups.
Brady’s involvement in the acquisition of Viagen Pets marks a significant step for Colossal Biosciences, which aspires to blend science and business in efforts to revive lost species and improve genetic technology for the future.
