Military Action Against Drug Smugglers

Army Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed on Tuesday that U.S. drone strikes resulted in the deaths of two suspected drug smugglers operating on a vessel associated with a designated terrorist organization. The operation took place in international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean and was executed on orders from President Donald Trump.

This drone strike marks the 16th operation initiated by President Trump, targeting vessels suspected of bringing illegal drugs into the United States.

During the airstrike, at least 66 individuals thought to be involved in narco-terrorism were killed, while three others were reported to have survived. Hegseth noted, “Intelligence agencies have confirmed that this vessel was involved in illegal drug smuggling and was traveling along known drug smuggling routes.”

He also stated that no U.S. troops were harmed in the operation and emphasized that two male narco-terrorists aboard the ship had been killed. “We will locate and destroy any vessels used to smuggle drugs into the United States for the purpose of poisoning our people,” he added, reiterating the priority of defending the homeland. “Cartel terrorists have no chance against the U.S. military.”

The U.S. military’s activity in the Caribbean region has recently ramped up, deploying bombers, warships, and Marines as part of a broader mission targeting drug trafficking networks and “narco-terrorism” linked to Venezuela.

In response to the ongoing challenges, the Trump administration has set up a new joint counternarcotics task force aimed at “crushing cartels, stopping toxins, and keeping America safe.” This initiative will oversee air, naval, and special operations missions, marking the most significant U.S. military commitment in the Caribbean in decades.
