Arrest in Alleged Terrorist Plot Involving ISIS
The son of well-known Iranian-American poet Roger Sedarat has been detained in Montclair, New Jersey, related to a suspected ISIS-inspired terrorist plan that was exposed in Michigan last week, according to law enforcement officials.
Authorities allege that this plot, discovered in Detroit, aimed to imitate the 2015 ISIS attacks in Paris.
Guzel, the individual arrested, was apprehended in a food court at Terminal B of Newark Liberty International Airport. Reports suggest he was preparing for a flight to Turkey, intending to reach Syria for ISIS training.
Initially scheduled to depart on November 17, Guzel’s flight was moved up following the news of a raid in Detroit targeting terrorist suspects.
This development occurred just two days after two individuals from Michigan were charged with providing weapons for an ISIS-related attack on an LGBTQ-friendly bar in Detroit.
Court documents identify Muhammad Ali, 20, as a primary co-conspirator involved in a shooting spree on Halloween night. The legal filings mention five unnamed co-conspirators and a minor referred to as “Person 1,” who was reportedly designated to execute the attack alongside Ali, while the others planned to join ISIS in Syria.
However, authorities acted swiftly before Ali and his group could fulfill their plans, executing a search at their residence and a rented warehouse nearby Inkster.
During the search, investigators discovered three AR-15-style rifles, two shotguns, four handguns, over 1,600 rounds of ammunition, a GoPro camera, a tactical vest, and other equipment.
