Brissett to Start at QB for Cardinals Amid Murray’s Injury

The Arizona Cardinals have decided to keep Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback for at least the next month. This comes as Kyler Murray, the team’s main QB, has been sidelined due to a midfoot sprain sustained in Week 5.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon mentioned that placing Murray on injured reserve was a “collective decision.” While it’s unfortunate for the team, he reassured fans that this injury isn’t expected to end Murray’s season and expressed hopes for his complete recovery.

Gannon noted, “We have a lot of games left to play, and it’s important for him to focus on getting healthy.” It’s never ideal to lose your franchise quarterback, but Brissett stepped up impressively during a recent game against the Dallas Cowboys, leading the team to their first win since Week 2. He threw for 261 yards, recording two touchdowns and achieving a 115.1 passer rating in the 27-17 victory.

While sitting at a 3-5 record, the Cardinals could have faced a much tougher situation had they lost another series of close games. Brissett’s performance against Dallas brings some optimism, and the team believes they can manage until Murray is back.

Looking ahead, there’s a possibility that Murray might return by Week 14 when the Cardinals are scheduled to face the Los Angeles Rams. Gannon acknowledged that with Murray’s unique playing style, the recovery timeline might be impacted, which is unfortunate but not uncommon.

Arizona’s upcoming schedule isn’t easy; they’re set to play against strong opponents, starting with a clash against the Seattle Seahawks, who currently lead the NFC West. The next few games also include matchups against the San Francisco 49ers and the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s a lot of pressure on Brissett to keep the momentum going.

As a backup quarterback, big opportunities come with challenges. Brissett showed he could rise to the occasion on Monday night, but maintaining that level of performance will be key for the offense as they navigate through the next month.
