Shooting Incident in Medford, Oregon
Officers from the Medford Police Department responded to a report of a shooting early Sunday morning at a residence on Hawthorne Street, shortly after 3:30 AM.
According to police, an investigation revealed that a neighbor observed a disturbance outside the apartment. The neighbor, witnessing a man attempting to break into a nearby unit occupied by an elderly person, took it upon himself to intervene.
Upon looking through the window, the neighbor saw an unknown individual trying to force his way inside. In a bid to help, he grabbed a handgun and rushed out. Unfortunately, after the suspect gained entry, the neighbor saw him attacking the elderly resident.
During the altercation, the neighbor fired shots at the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities reported that multiple shots were fired. The deceased was identified as 32-year-old Martin Uriel Jimenez from Medford.
The neighbor who fired the shots has been taken into custody and is cooperating with ongoing investigations, though no arrests have been made yet.
Police further mentioned that standard protocols require this case to be forwarded to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for review regarding the use of deadly force.
