Healthy Food Choices: A Reality Check

If you’re in the habit of checking the labels on what you believe are healthy snacks, you might find yourself disheartened. Perhaps it’s time to rethink your choices.

This was the experience of Michelle Visser, a homesteader, who, after some reflection, decided to scrutinize what she was consuming.

“I’ve always been a junk food lover, relying on processed foods,” Visser shared during a discussion with Blaze TV host Allie Beth Stuckey.

She started to notice that instead of relying on store-bought taco seasoning, she could easily whip up her own version. Ice cream? Well, she discovered she could produce her own without questionable additives.

Stuckey asked, “What changes did you notice in your health and your family’s?”

Visser explained, “I felt more energized and had this renewed appreciation for food that I can’t recall ever having before.” She noted that there’s something deeply satisfying about preparing meals from scratch compared to just tearing open a box.

“Creativity and fulfillment come from making real food,” she said. “I noticed improvements: more energy, better sleep, and an overall sense of well-being.”

Stuckey chimed in, highlighting that eliminating processed foods could help address many chronic health issues people face today.

“It’s not just a quick fix; a lot of ailments, particularly related to digestion and skin, can be significantly improved through what we prepare in our kitchens,” she noted.

Additionally, for those who think nightly tea rituals enhance health, Visser delivered an eye-opener.

“Interestingly, tea is among the least regulated yet most pesticide-laden drinks available,” she remarked, pointing out that even “organic” teas can come in harmful bleached bags.

“Opting for loose-leaf tea may be the better option,” Stuckey advised.

Visser nodded in agreement.
