Prince William shares his thoughts on being honest with children during Kate's cancer care

(News Nation) — Prince William recently opened up about how he and Kate Middleton informed their children about their cancer diagnosis. During a conversation with Brazilian TV host Luciano Huck, William, 43, shared that the last couple of years have been particularly challenging, as both Kate, 43, and King Charles, 76, have had their battles with cancer.

William expressed that completely concealing the situation from Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis wasn’t a viable option. He and Kate decided that being more transparent with their kids was essential. He mentioned to Huck that while this approach has its ups and downs, trying to hide things rarely works.

“There’s a mix of emotions; sometimes I worry I might be sharing too much. But on the whole, I think kids can sense when things are off, and that’s not helpful,” he noted.

While in Rio de Janeiro for the fifth anniversary of the Earthshot environmental award and the COP30 climate summit, William emphasized the importance of discussing feelings within the family. He believes that unanswered questions only lead to more inquiries.

Duchess Kate’s Diagnosis

Duchess Kate is anticipated to give birth in March 2024. She had previously announced her cancer diagnosis and had undergone chemotherapy, which kept her away from public engagements.

In January, Kate shared the news on social media that her cancer was in remission, expressing relief yet emphasizing her ongoing focus on recovery.

Reflecting on these recent events, William mentioned in a September appearance on the Apple TV+ series “A Reluctant Traveler” that both 2023 and 2024 have been incredibly tough. “Life throws challenges our way, and how we overcome them defines who we are,” he said.
