On Tuesday, Veterans Day, President Donald Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier amidst windy conditions.
Accompanied by Vice President J.D. Vance, Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins, and Brig. Gen. Antoinette R. Gantt, President Trump observed the national anthem before engaging in a moment of reflection as he laid the wreath.
After this, he joined Vance, Collins, and Gantt, who rendered a military salute and played “Taps” on their trumpets.
Among the attendees was House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), along with other officials like Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Army Secretary Pete Hegseth, Education Secretary Linda McMahon, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and White House Director of Management and Budget Russ Vought, as noted by the White House press corps.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, Trump, Vance, and Collins interacted with each other inside the amphitheater.
During his remarks, Trump conveyed both his and the nation’s appreciation for the service of American veterans.
“I want to thank you for carrying the weight of our nation’s destiny on your proud shoulders,” he stated.
“You earn the respect and gratitude of the entire nation. We love you. We honor you. And we will never forget your sacrifices for America’s security and freedom,” he continued.
Vance shared his appreciation for the sacrifices veterans have made for the country, acknowledging their commitment.
“Everyone who has donned a uniform for this nation should feel a sense of gratitude today and every day,” he expressed.
“From the Vice President to every veteran, thank you for your service, your sacrifices, and for making us proud every single day,” he added.
Collins highlighted that Veterans Day symbolizes “a day when ordinary people perform extraordinary acts.”
“It’s the day when individuals from various communities make the choice to commit to something greater than themselves,” he concluded.
