President Trump Forms Task Force for 2028 Olympics
Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly spoke on “Fox & Friends First” regarding President Donald Trump’s announcement of a new task force aimed at organizing logistics for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
In a significant move, the recently released LA28 schedule reveals that for the first time, the women’s 100m track final will take place on the opening day of the competition, while the men’s final is set for the following day. “The women’s 100m is going to be one of the most-watched events, and we wanted to start with a showcase of the world’s fastest women,” noted Shana Ferguson, the head of sports and competition distribution for LA28, during a press briefing.
The first round on July 15 is expected to feature the third round of the women’s 100m. It’s worth mentioning that typically, female track athletes manage up to two events per day, so having three in one day is completely new territory for them.
This change to highlight female sprinters early on comes at a pivotal time, as interest in women’s sports continues to rise in the U.S. at the same time there’s a global focus on protecting women’s categories from biologically male trans athletes. Reports suggest that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is considering new policies that would restrict transgender athletes from competing as women.
There have also been hints from President Trump, suggesting possible genetic testing at the LA Olympics. This comes in light of concerns raised about male-dominating competitors in women’s events, with studies indicating that numerous athletes in women’s championships since 2000 have male biology.
Additional Highlights from the LA28 Schedule
Notably, American flag football will make its Olympic debut, with competitions scheduled to start on July 15 at Expo Park Stadium. The men’s gold medal match is planned for July 21, followed by the women’s match the next day.
Baseball and softball will reappear in the Olympics after their absence in Paris last summer, with baseball games occurring at Dodgers Stadium and softball starting at OKC Softball Park.
Basketball will kick off on July 12, ahead of the women’s opening ceremony, while the men’s games will begin the day after. The women’s gold medal game is slated for July 29, with the men’s match the following day at the Inglewood Dome.
In total, the 2028 Olympic schedule will feature an unusual seven events before the opening ceremony. “Super Saturday” will set the stage on July 29 with 26 finals across 23 competitions.
