Emails Reveal Jeffrey Epstein’s Communication on Trump and Putin
Newly released emails by the House Oversight Committee indicate that convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein suggested to a former foreign leader that he could provide valuable “insights” about President Trump to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In an email dated June 24, 2018, Epstein reached out to Torbjorn Jagland, the former Prime Minister of Norway and then Secretary-General of the Council of Europe. He mentioned having previously advised a senior Russian diplomat on engaging with President Trump, particularly regarding an invitation to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Epstein wrote to Jagland, “Perhaps you could suggest to President Putin that Mr. Lavrov might find it useful to speak with me.” He then referred to Vitaly Churkin, Russia’s former UN ambassador, who had passed away in February 2017.
Jagland’s response indicated he would make a proposal to the Kremlin. “I will meet with Mr. Lavrov’s aides on Monday and present a suggestion,” he replied on Sunday, adding, “Thank you for the wonderful night.”
Epstein followed up by touting his previous discussions with Churkin, claiming that Churkin gained a better understanding of Trump after their conversation. “Churkin was great. After our talk, he really got Trump,” Epstein asserted, adding that the president’s requirements were “not complicated”—he simply needed to be perceived as getting something from any negotiations.
Interestingly, it’s unclear whether Epstein, who died in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial, ever actually met Lavrov.
Jagland has not responded to requests for comments regarding this exchange.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt stated in a briefing that the latest emails from the Epstein documents “prove absolutely nothing, except that President Trump did nothing wrong.”
In a Truth Social post, Trump accused Democrats of attempting to divert attention from the government’s shortcomings by releasing Epstein’s emails, which included references to him.
In another email exchange with former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, Epstein expressed criticism of Trump’s conduct during the 2018 Helsinki summit with Putin. “Do the Russians know anything about Trump? Today was terrible, even by his standards,” Summers noted in an email to Epstein on July 16, 2018.
Epstein replied the following day, acknowledging the negativity circulating in response to Trump’s performance. “My email is full of similar comments. Wow,” he noted, adding that Trump’s attitude towards the summit was “as expected.” He further commented, “He thinks he was able to charm his opponents. I can’t speak to the symbolism; he doesn’t seem to know much about various issues.”
A spokesperson for Summers has yet to respond to requests for clarification on these discussions.
