Flight Diverted Due to Unwanted Passenger
On Tuesday, an American Airlines flight with several members of Congress was unexpectedly redirected because of an “unwanted passenger.”
According to reports, law enforcement boarded the plane to remove the individual before the flight resumed its journey to Washington, D.C., landing without further issues.
The flight had departed from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona and was about two hours and forty-one minutes into its journey when the pilot decided to change course to Kansas City International Airport.
Among those on board were Arizona Representative Greg Stanton (D), along with Representatives Eli Crane (R), Andy Biggs (R), and Paul Gosar (R). Stanton noted in a post that they were traveling to DC to vote against a continuing resolution that he believed did not address health care costs. He expressed his thoughts about the diversion, indicating that none of his colleagues were involved in any misconduct and commenting on the Freedom Caucus’s decreasing influence.
He later expressed gratitude to the Kansas City Police Department for managing the situation without incident.
Adam Burtner, another passenger, posted a video showing an unidentified woman being escorted off the aircraft. Just before her exit, she was heard saying, “I’m sorry, everyone. We live in a fascist state.”
American Airlines confirmed that the flight was diverted due to “passenger disturbance,” but the specifics of the incident have not been disclosed.
Notably, Burtner further mentioned that the woman claimed she was removed for taking a photo of someone on the plane, though her comments were somewhat unclear.
