Authorities in Illinois have classified the deaths of a married couple, Rachel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Dumovich, 30, as a murder-suicide following their discovery in a parked car on October 6. A police officer found their vehicle with hazard lights on along Route 14 in Harvard, Illinois, leading to the grim discovery of both individuals deceased inside.
After an investigation, it was determined that Brandon shot Rachel before taking his own life. A spokesperson from the coroner’s office confirmed that both had died from gunshot wounds to the head.
Initial police reports indicated gunshot wounds were present on both bodies, and a firearm was located within the car. In response to the incident, the McHenry County Major Investigation Support Team was established to handle the case.
Following the discovery, police instructed neighbors to shelter in place, but later clarified there was no ongoing threat to the community.
Rachel’s wedding page on The Knot shared a glimpse into their romance, indicating they were middle school sweethearts. She recounted first meeting Brandon at age 12, humorously detailing how she captured his attention by “stealing cologne from his locker.” The two maintained their connection through various life stages, officially starting to date in 2022. Brandon proposed in summer 2023 at Big Cedar Lake, and they married on October 12, 2024.
Just hours prior to their deaths, Rachel shared a nostalgic post on Facebook, reflecting on a wish to return to Greece, likely reminiscing about their honeymoon. Harvard University Police expressed their condolences, stating their thoughts are with the family and all those impacted by this heartbreaking incident.
