Larry Summers steps back from public life as calls grow for Harvard to sever ties, following Epstein emails implicating an Obama/Clinton associate.

Trump Orders Investigation into Epstein Connections

President Donald Trump has directed the Justice Department and FBI to look into Jeffrey Epstein’s ties to high-profile figures, including Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, and JPMorgan Chase.

This directive seems to have upset some parties involved. For instance, Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, asserted that the calls for an investigation against him are merely political persecution. “I was never a client of Epstein, and my only connection was for fundraising efforts for MIT,” he noted on X.

Clinton’s press secretary claimed that emails would show Clinton had no involvement with Epstein. The spokesperson stated, “This is just a diversion from the recent election loss and various governmental issues.”

JPMorgan Chase also responded by emphasizing that, while they regret their prior association with Epstein, they had cut ties years before his arrest on sex trafficking charges. The company reiterated that they did not facilitate his criminal activities.

Some of Epstein’s previous correspondents continue to assert their innocence. However, Summers, who once advised both President Barack Obama and served as Clinton’s Treasury Secretary, has expressed remorse and indicated that he would be stepping back from public life.

Summers conveyed in a statement, “I am deeply ashamed of my decisions and the distress they have caused. I take complete responsibility for my ongoing communication with Epstein.” He mentioned that while he would still teach, he aims to rebuild trust with those around him.

The New York Economic Club has postponed an event featuring Summers, and Summers has reportedly terminated his fellowship at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank.

Furthermore, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren has urged Harvard University to break ties with Summers, criticizing his judgment in maintaining a relationship with Epstein.

Warren stated, “If he couldn’t distance himself from Epstein amid knowledge of his offenses, he should not advise our politicians or educate students.” It appears Harvard did not respond to inquiries regarding this issue.

The House Oversight Committee recently unveiled more than 20,000 pages of emails that detail communications between Epstein and Summers, revolving around various topics, including women and projects linked to Harvard.

Although Summers might regret his communications being disclosed, he seemed to have no objections to discussing Epstein in the years following his 2008 conviction. Interestingly, some of these exchanges date back as recently as July 2019, just before Epstein faced federal charges for sex trafficking.

Reports indicate that Summers had sought Epstein’s counsel on personal matters and even shared an email from a woman he was interested in. The identity of the woman has not been revealed.

In communications with Epstein, which were exposed in the recent email release, Summers jokingly suggested romantic pursuits, and Epstein remarked, “She is destined to be with you.”
