Deion Sanders Proud of Son’s NFL Debut

Deion Sanders expressed his pride in his son, Shedeur, following his NFL debut with the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The head coach of Colorado noted that Shedeur was doing well behind the scenes, preparing for this significant moment.

“I know the fight behind the fight,” Sanders shared with reporters. “I’m just really proud of him. He’s not just talking the talk; he’s walking the walk and living the right way. That’s him.” It’s clear that this is a meaningful achievement for both father and son.

With Dillon Gabriel out due to a concussion, Shedeur is expected to start against the Las Vegas Raiders this coming Sunday. However, Deion hasn’t made up his mind about whether he will travel for his son’s first NFL start. “I’m focused on what’s directly ahead,” he said. “I haven’t given it much thought; just got off the phone with him.” There’s a lot going on for the coach, so it makes sense he wants to keep his attention on the upcoming game.

Interestingly, Deion had a notion that Shedeur might debut last week against the Baltimore Ravens, but it didn’t happen then. “I thought the Ravens could have done better early on to bring (Shedeur) in,” he remarked. He added that he didn’t want Shedeur to step in while injured since he values Dillon and wants him to succeed, too.

In his debut, Shedeur faced some struggles, completing only 4 of 16 passes for 47 yards, with one interception and a couple of sacks. It’s tough not to feel for him; starting in the NFL is a huge deal. “I knew there would be inconsistencies,” Deion reflected, understanding the pressures his son faces.

The Browns are counting on Shedeur to rejuvenate their offense, which has averaged a mere 16.2 points per game—ranking 29th in the league this season. With a matchup against the 2-8 Raiders scheduled for Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET, there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding how he will perform.
