Joy Reid expresses 'transphobic' views on locker rooms — following earlier comparison of trans critics to Nazis

Joy Reid’s Locker Room Controversy

Joy Reid, a former MSNBC host, recently addressed her discomfort regarding transgender-identifying men in women’s locker rooms, while previously labeling critics of the transgender movement as akin to Nazis.

During a discussion, a woman in a Los Angeles gym conveyed her shock after encountering a transgender woman’s exposed anatomy in the locker room. Reid expressed empathy for the woman’s reaction. “I get why she reported it. Doesn’t she have a right to feel uncomfortable?” Reid said.

She further elaborated, “I would be alarmed too. Just seeing someone without clothes can be unsettling.” Reid candidly admitted that if she saw male genitalia in a women’s locker room, she would be similarly distressed.

This incident gained traction after singer Tish Hyman shared her experience, revealing it was not the first time she had faced such an issue at that gym. Despite her complaints, she felt ignored by the staff, leading her to express her frustration online.

Interestingly, while Reid sided with Hyman on the matter, she insisted that her position wasn’t rooted in anti-transgender sentiment. She emphasized that the concern revolved more around safety and privacy when encountering nudity that one might not expect in a women’s locker room.

Previously, Reid has drawn parallels between today’s treatment of transgender individuals and the brutality faced by various groups during Nazi Germany. In an article, she criticized the Supreme Court for its inaction regarding violence in schools while seeming ready to uphold restrictive laws against gender-affirming care for minors.

Hyman, reflecting on her incident, expressed fear and disbelief, stating that she asked the individual to leave, feeling disregarded. She ended with a poignant observation, noting that while transgender individuals deserve a space, they should have their own designated areas separate from women’s facilities.
