Outfit Choice Sparks Controversy for National Anthem Singer in Spain
Karina Pacián was selected to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the NFL’s inaugural regular season game in Spain over the weekend, but her attire caused quite a stir online.
Pacián took to the field in a black minidress with thigh-high stockings and garters, leading to significant backlash. In a subsequent interview, she expressed surprise at the negative responses.
“Honestly, I didn’t think anyone would say anything,” she remarked. “I was happy with my outfit choice. I collaborated with stylists David and Adrian, who were fantastic and helped bring my vision to life. I didn’t intend to offend anyone, and I apologize if I did. I just wanted to enjoy myself.”
She described her style as “super cabaret and super burlesque,” noting that it reflects her aesthetic preferences.
Pacián mentioned that her outfit had received pre-approval from the NFL and emphasized her focus on positive feedback. “I’ve seen a lot of nice comments, and I’m trying to channel that energy. I mean, people are entitled to their opinions,” she added.
Her career has been longstanding in the music industry, with her debut R&B album, “First Love,” released in August 2008. It notably reached number 11 on the US R&B chart and number 57 overall.
Since then, she has continued to produce music, with her latest EP, “Something Warm to Wear,” coming out in 2020.
