Rice attracts students by offering free beer before North Texas game

Rice University Offers Incentives for Game Attendance

Rice University is making a concerted effort to fill its stadium for the game this Saturday night against No. 22 North Texas. They’re rolling out some enticing offers to attract students, which include free 12-ounce beers for those 21 and older, free vouchers for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, free T-shirts for the first 500 students, and $15 vouchers valid at two food trucks. Students will need to present their ID to access these perks.

The university shared these incentives on X in a post that has since been removed, but it’s been confirmed that the promotion is still available.

In addition, the residential college with the best attendance will snag a $500 gift card to a nearby grocery store, along with a speaker for their event.

This particular game is quite significant for Rice, as they come into it with a record of 5-5. A victory would secure their spot in a bowl game, which is a pretty big deal. They’ve had a mixed bag in their last three home games—winning one and losing two.

Notably, the Owls lost to UConn in a nail-biter, 37-34 in overtime, followed by a 38-14 defeat against Memphis. Last week, they managed to even things out with a 24-17 win over UAB. To clinch their sixth win this season, they’ll need to triumph over a strong North Texas squad, which boasts a record of 9-1 and has won their last four games.

North Texas’s only loss this season came from a hefty 63-36 defeat to South Florida back in October. Ironically, Rice will also be facing South Florida next week on the road.

As the final home game of the season approaches, Rice is counting on the enthusiasm of their student section to help propel them to victory against North Texas.
