Son of wealthy family fatally shot by police recognized in unusual obituary

Honoring a Troubled Life

The son of a prominent Ohio family, who struggled with paranoia and substance abuse before dying in a police encounter, has been memorialized in an obituary that highlights a different side of his life.

Christopher Lindner, 40, was described as a “devoted husband” and “loving father” following his death during a high-speed police pursuit. This happened after he threatened a construction worker with a knife at his family’s property in Adams County on November 14.

His obituary portrayed him as a man who had a deep faith, loved his wife dearly, and lived with principles of integrity, kindness, and generosity. The family reflected on weekends spent in nature, enjoying life with his loved ones, and how his joy and laughter impacted those around him.

Lindner, whose father is businessman Karl Lindner III, faced ongoing battles with drug and alcohol abuse, which allegedly influenced his threatening behavior. Documents revealed that two weeks prior to the fatal incident, his wife, Tabitha Lindner, alerted the authorities about his deteriorating mental state while seeking a protective order.

According to reports, Lindner exhibited signs of delusion, claiming to prepare for an impending apocalypse by stockpiling firearms and believing he was on a divine mission. Tabitha expressed grave concerns about what he might do with a weapon.

In a previous encounter with law enforcement in 2019, Lindner was reportedly photographed pointing a gun at Tabitha. During this incident, he was described as being under the influence and agreed to seek rehabilitation in exchange for not facing charges. However, he relapsed and continued his substance abuse.

Tabitha recounted a troubling family trip to Disney in 2024, where Lindner’s paranoia was evident, making hurtful remarks to himself and others. They separated temporarily until he promised to quit drugs, at which point he returned home earlier this year.

By October, Tabitha discovered THC vape pens that she suspected Lindner had purchased. When confronted, he spoke of being a “living radio” who was destined to herald the “Rapture.” He later went to detox at his family’s property, where security footage showed him handling a handgun.

Reportedly, he yelled at invisible people and spoke about his children while wandering the property. On October 8, fearing for her safety and that of their children, Tabitha filed for a civil protection order, which mandated that he surrender his firearm.

The Lindner family is well-known in Ohio; Christopher’s grandfather founded United Dairy Farmers and American Financial Group, amassing significant wealth. His father, Karl Lindner III, is a notable businessman and owner of the FC Cincinnati soccer team.

In a statement, the family expressed their sorrow over Christopher’s passing, noting his struggles with mental illness. They described him as a loving individual devoted to his faith, his wife, and their four children, and requested privacy during their time of mourning.
