Kendrick Perkins Makes Bold Claims About NFL Rookie
Kendrick Perkins, a former NBA player with a championship title and a 14-season career, has stirred the pot again with a surprising statement regarding a new NFL star.
He’s become known for his provocative remarks, particularly centered around race, and recently he didn’t hold back. In 2023, he faced backlash for inaccurately asserting that the NBA MVP voting committee was predominantly white, despite evidence showing otherwise.
In a video shared Tuesday, Perkins didn’t shy away from more racially charged comments, this time regarding Shedeur Sanders, a rookie quarterback for the Cleveland Browns and the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders. Perkins compared Sanders’ influence to that of a former president.
“Shedeur Sanders is the most powerful black man since 2009,” stated Perkins, referencing the year Barack Obama took office. “His impact is immense.”
He went further, claiming that many black men have a strong emotional response to watching Sanders play. Perkins, addressing his co-host, asked, “You said you were sitting at home watching the game. What did you do? You ran. You ran with the TV!”
Moreover, Perkins emphasized that Sanders has a unique ability to connect with “the entire black community,” asserting he’s never heard anyone speak negatively about him. He described Sanders as having both arrogance and humility.
Perkins didn’t stop at just calling Sanders powerful in sports—he proclaimed him “the most powerful player in sports.” It’s intriguing, perhaps even amusing, to think how such bold assertions may not necessarily resonate with everyone.
Interestingly, there’s another prominent figure who might share Perkins’ sentiment—though it isn’t Obama.
President Donald Trump has expressed admiration for Sanders since the player’s selection in the NFL draft, despite some rocky interviews. Trump questioned whether team owners were “stupid” for not drafting him earlier. After Sanders’ first professional start, Trump tweeted, “Shedeur Sanders was great… Great genes. I told you so!”
