Tragic Shooting at Birthday Party in Stockton
A mother has expressed her sorrow after a shooting at her daughter’s second birthday party left four people dead and 11 others injured on Saturday night. Patrice Williams, who hosted the event at a ballroom in Stockton, conveyed her feelings towards the families affected by this tragedy.
“I just want to say I’m sorry to all the mothers who lost their children at my birthday party,” Williams remarked, addressing the heartbreaking situation.
The victims included individuals aged 8, 9, 14, and 21, with at least one person remaining in critical condition the following day, according to local sheriff reports.
Williams recounted how the chaos unfolded as guests were approaching the cake when gunfire erupted. “All I heard was gunshots and everyone jumped to the ground. It was completely unexpected,” she reflected.
San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow condemned the violent act during a news conference, stating, “These animals invaded children’s birthday parties and shot them. None of us should tolerate that.”
Authorities suspect that multiple gunmen were involved in the attack at the banquet hall just before 6 p.m. The FBI is assisting with the investigation and has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Withrow mentioned that this didn’t seem like a random act, suggesting that the assailants likely had a specific target in mind.
Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi labeled the event as potentially “mob-related,” though Withrow cautioned that gang involvement had yet to be confirmed.
Vice Mayor Jason Lee expressed his outrage at the incident, stating, “That’s not human.” Meanwhile, Williams directed her anger toward the shooters, declaring they deserve to face harsh consequences. “They deserve to go to prison. They deserve to go to hell,” she added emphatically.
After the shooting, Stockton police arrested five individuals. However, it remains unclear if these suspects were connected to the tragic events at the birthday party.
